COVID-19 Reopening Guide

Hi Seller Community!

We’re all facing unique challenges right now as businesses are permitted to begin reopening following COVID closures. For business owners, the stakes are particularly high. We want to offer support and help in the ways we can.

Please check our Support Centre for answers to common questions and issues you may face as you get ready to open your business.

Local councils and the UK Government have published COVID-secure reopening guidelines, which can be found here

📝 As you prepare to reopen, here’s a short checklist to help:

✔️ Make sure your Square account is activated for taking card payments. Square sellers are required to have a bank account linked to Square before taking payments. As such, you won’t be able to accept payments until your bank account has been linked and verified

✔️  There are no pending actions you need to take. As Square is a card processing company, occasionally we need to learn about businesses and the types of goods and services they are providing. This means you may see a notification on your Dashboard requesting some additional information. For more information about the verification form, visit our FAQs

✔️  Make sure your Square hardware is set up and ready to use. You can check our our handy guides for setting up and troubleshooting your Square Reader, Square Stand, Square Terminal and Square Register below:

Note  It’s also important to make sure that your device software and your Square Point of Sale app is fully up to date, as this can also cause issues when pairing with your hardware.

✔️ Review best practices for accepting in-person payments. Review this article with details about Products To Help You Take Payments During COVID-19 including best practices when accepting contactless payment methods with the Square Reader or Square Terminal and information about supported accessories. You can also read about 5 Ways Retailers Can Help Front-Line Employees Work Safely on our Town Square blog.

Note  The current contactless limit in the UK is £45. Square will work to roll out the ability for customers to make contactless card payments for up to £100 with Visa, Mastercard and American Express branded cards later this year in line with government requirements. The contactless limits do not apply to contactless mobile payments such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, when verified via biometric technologies (e.g. fingerprint, face ID).
