Square Terminal as Second Screen issues
 

We are using the Square Terminal as a 2nd customer screen connected to our iPad running Square POS. While we love not having to touch the customer's card, ask them if they want a receipt or not, and letting the customer finish the transaction themselves; we have several issues that have come up since we just started using the Terminal as a 2nd screen.

 

1) Customers tend to "grab" the terminal when they are inserting their chip-card or tearing off their receipt. The location of the power button is exactly where they put their hand, thus turning off the screen. This becomes an issue after they check out, and we are unaware that the screen is turned off. When checking out the next customer and we send the transaction to the terminal, it stays dark. It would be really helpful if sending a transaction "woke-up" the terminal screen so the customer can check out. While I realize that we can not move the power button, it would be really nice if there was an "awake terminal" function when the iPad sends the transaction to the terminal for the customer to checkout.

2) In relation to the above, the 2nd issue is when a customer checks out and does not choose a receipt option (does not even say "no thanks"). The screen will go into a dimmed mode about 30 seconds after the transaction, then will shut down completely. Once again, if we do not hit the power button to turn the terminal screen back on, we are unable to checkout the next customer. Furthermore, when you do hit the power button, it goes back to the previous checkout transaction's receipt, and we have to hit "no thanks" to move onto the next customer. One would think that it would "time-out" and just go back to the powered by square-logo screen awaiting the next transaction.

It would be REALLY nice if these bugs could be addressed with an update. The entire reason we purchased the Square Terminal was to use it as a 2nd screen to help with our staff not having to touch cards, increasing tipping, as well as expedite the checkout process. We have found that we're actually having to reach across the counter now and it's taking longer. While we are excited about the potential of the Square Terminal being used as a 2nd screen for our customers, these issues really need to be addressed with an update.

Are we missing something, are there work-arounds addressing these issues?
