Debit Chip & PIN Square Reader Update

I received an e-mail from Square yesterday captured below

How do I know if the update has taken place.  I did launch Square today.

In about section of the app, it shows

Version: 5.23(5230020)

SPoC version - SPOC 1.0

New: Debit chip and PIN on Square Reader

The wait is over. Square Reader for contactless and chip will now accept debit chip and PIN cards. This means you can take every payment: tap or chip & PIN—and never miss a sale again.

To get this feature, your reader needs a firmware update that will be released overnight

Your reader will update first thing tomorrow morning (October 23) when it’s connected to the Square Point of Sale app

You won’t be able to accept payments with your reader for 10 to 20 minutes, so please have your backup magstripe reader handy or connect your reader to your device earlier than usual

Mine has already updated.

Go into your settings on the app and click on readers.

Then under my readers click on the contactless + chip reader and info will pop up on it at the bottom.

Read the firmware number .

It should read something like this # SCRP. 1.3.1.59 or higher.

If it does then you are good to go.

It takes something like about 20 minutes for the update of the firmware to go through once your Square App  is open.

I did mine early in the morning while I got ready for work.

Question- it just updates the firmware, correct?  It doesn't mean I have to get another contactless chip reader???  If this works, it will be great!  So many people want to pay with debit.

Yes that is correct.

It updates the firmware on your current contactless reader.
