Hi, I'm going to get started using Square for my new store, but I would rather use Android.  Will I miss any of the functionality of Square by using Android?

I've noticed that appointments is not available for Android. Is anything else excluded?  

I really want to be able to offer remote ordering. Will I be able to do that?

Take a look at the Hardware that is available to each There are items that don't work with Android, like the square stand.  Check out the Third party hardware section.

What do you mean by remote order?  If you want to do Online orders then yes that will work fine.
