Stand with lightning connector, but iPad too small?

We're looking at upgrading one of our Square stands and its associated iPad so I bought a stand with lightning connector.  I'm using an iPad AIr.  The iPad port barely goes into the connector.  The space for the iPad is way larger than an iPad Air, Air 2, or 9.7" Pro, it's still the size of an iPad 4.  Did I order the wrong thing or did Square do this on purpose?

It looks terrible once the iPad is mounted and the iPad just kind of moves around.

There are two different Square Stands. One fits the iPad 4, and the other fits iPad Pro 9.7”, iPad Air 2, and iPad Air. I'm guessing you ordered the wrong one. You should be able to check by looking at your order.  Square does offer returns within 30 days, so hopefully you received the stand very recently.
