Wondering why app wants me to pair reader? If I am only using my android phone?

This is a good question! I would start by making sure that there weren't any readers previously paired with the device via the Square Point of Sale application.

I have removed all previous readers! I removed the app and reloaded it! 

It now says connect hardware to take card payments?

If you do not need reader to take payments ??

Another question:

What if customer does not have tap enabled will we not still need reader for them?

In regards to the connect hardware prompt, this will be something that our Support team will have to take a closer look at.  To answer your other question,  while most banks are enabling tap by default, we cannot guarantee that a reader won't be needed at all.
