Q&A

Question: For photographers offering various sized images, 8x10, 16x20 would frames be modifiers?

Answer: Modifiers are great for things like toppings, exclusions from an order, or tracking an aspect of a sale. If you're selling items with varying sizes, colors, or anything you'd like to track inventory for, item variants or price points are going to be the best option.

Question: Can you go over the .csv upload of items and where to find the template?

Answer: Step-by-step instructions for using the item import tool and finding the .csv item template can be found in our Support Center.

Question: Can reciepts be made for cash transactions.

Answer: Yes, you can send a digital receipt or print a paper receipt for sales taken with any payment method.

Question: We are a non-profit charity. We are exempt from paying sales tax. How can we purchase hardware exempt of sales tax?

Answer: While there isn't a way to remove sales tax from the purchase at squareup.com/shop, you can reach out to our Support Team and they'll work with you to receive a refund.

Question: We would like to have our donors cover the transaction fee. What is the best method to set up a convenience fee for the transaction fee?

Answer: This is called a surcharge, and while it's possible to use with Square, youmust make sure you're compliant with local and state laws and inform the credit card networks. Read more about applying surcharges in our Support Center.

Question: Set up inventory for one time use? How hard is that?

Answer: You can import all your items using a .csv file and then replace your entire library before the next use. Learn more about basic inventory management in our Support Center.

Question: We are a Social Club, Tax exempt, and hold auctions twice a year. To use square as the POS, we need to trace who donated, who purchased, and who sold items. Will Square do this?

Answer: Yes, you can use employee sales tracking and add customer info to your Customer Directory at the point of sale

Question: You ask for an SSN or an ITIN...Does the EIN work for the business?

Answer: You'll need to activate your account using a SSN or ITIN, then add an EIN to the account for any tax reporting and 1099-Ks Square may issue to your account. Learn more about tax reporting in out Support Center.

Question: If we're running bar sales where someone wants to leave their account open throughout the night to make additional charges, how does that work?

Answer: You're able to use our Open Tickets feature to keep tabs open!

Question: How do we record cash or check transactions?

Answer: Learn how to accept cash, checks, and other tender in our Support Center.

Question: Will customers automatically recieve a receipt including our Tax ID for donataions? Can we customize the recipt to be a thank you letter include Tax ID for non-profits receiveing donations?

Answer: Your customers may receive an automatic digital receipt if they've requested one from a previous Square seller, otherwise you can always send a digital receipt at the point of sale. And you're able to customize and add any info to your receipts, including your Tax ID, from your online Square Dashboard.

Question: Is there a top limit for deposits? Say 150 crdit card transcactions in one day for say $20,000 in a day?

Answer: While all Square merchants start off with an initial per-transaction limit of $50,000, we have no monthly, weekly, or daily deposit limits whatsoever for our standard next business day schedule. No matter the size of your balance, your funds are typically deposited fast (within one to two business days), though most deposits go out much sooner. Learn more about deposit limits in our Support Center.

Question: Our reporting for sales on Square will be in cash, checks, and credit cards. How difficult is it to reconcile with the deposts of cash and checks, and then credit cards clearing the bank, (which will be several days later)?

Answer: You can keep track of all sales totals, including cash and credit card, from the Reports section of your online Square Dashboard. This will tell you how much to expect via deposits from cards sales and what you received in cash by date.

Question: Does the mag stripe reader work with the iphone with no headphone jack?

Answer: Yes! The magstripe reader works with the Lightning-to-headphone adapter included with newer iPhones and with Square's Lightning Adapter for Square Reader.
