We use a Dymo Twin Turbo because it can hold 2 labels sizes (less switching label rolls). I'm not sure just how compatible it is with Square for Retail label printing from your device though... I prefer to print labels from a computer so that I can get the full range of support for label sizes... But you can check out what is currently supported by Square here.
Just about any printer out there will be able to print a barcode that works with your socket mobile scanner though. I would stick with a thermal printer though. I used to use an inkjet label printer, but I got tired of the ink bleeding in certain conditions. Dymo printers come with its own printing software where you can design barcode labels that will work with your scanner. It's pretty intuitive and easy to use.
