With a furniture store selling also in store, am I correct to use Square terminal just to key in sale amount and process card? Don't need dashboard? Just straight in the terminal?

Yes you can use the Virtual Terminal to accept a payment a computer in your store! This Support Center article has step-by-step instructions to take a payment with Virtual Terminal.
You do need to sign in to your online Square Dashboard (squareup.com/login) in order to access the Virtual Terminal feature. Your 'dashboard' is a way to access your Square account from a computer browser. Form your Dashboard you can manage your account details, view reports and transcations, send invoices - and last but not least, use the Virtual Terminal.
Keep in mind the per payment fee for Virtual Terminal 2.5% per payment. If you use the Point of Sale app on a phone or tablet and take payments with the chip card reader the fee is lower - 1.75% per payment.
