Booklet that comes with Reader is difficult to understand (about Bluetooth pairing)
Just a warning to anyone other Newbie who may find themselves in the same position I was in: For information about how to pair the chip-reader with Bluetooth on an iPhone or iPad, DON'T go by what it says in the physical booklet that comes with the reader. The information under "Connect" (item 3 in the get up & running section) says that you need to go to a "hamburger-style" menu at the top left of the Square App. There is no such item in the Square App. For correct information about pairing Bluetooth, use the ONLINE guide instead, at square.com/setup.

yes, the hamburger menu is in the app, it is the 3 lines in the top left corner in the Square POS app on a phone, and I think it is in the bottom left when viewed on a tablet. It is also what the tell you to click on in video and steps in the linked help article.
sometimes, besides the hamburger menu, it is also called a slide menu, or navigation drawer.
Also when you have notifications on the iPad it can be a blue number representing your number of messages.
