Choosing the right Point of Sale options for your business

Today, I want to give you an overview of the various point of sale options Square offers to your business. In this article, you can learn more about the benefits and subscription cost of each software solution. Some softwares do offer a free version and you can upgrade anytime. 

Note: Paid subscriptions include a 30-day free trial period. You’ll need to add your credit card to start the free trial. Additionally, the standard Square Point of Sale app is always free to download! 

Square Online Site 💻

With a Square Online site, you can create a professional website to showcase your business online, share blog-style stories, sell items and accept payments with Square. This is for sellers who may not want to build their website from scratch or hire a developer to maintain it, and who are looking for an easy what-you-see-is-what-you-get experience.

Square also offers a built-in, automatic inventory, and order syncing option so you can manage orders and stock easily from your online Square Dashboard. 

It is free to get started and create a free Square Online site! If you would like to use the following features, you can upgrade your site to a subscription plan:

• Use a custom domain you already have or purchase a domain from Square
• Remove Square ads from your footer
• Access features like customer reviews, abandoned cart emails, etc.

Square for Restaurant 🍽️

Square for Restaurants is a dedicated software built for restaurants. It is designed to operate seamlessly between the main area, kitchen and office; whether you have a full service or quick casual service restaurant. With Square for Restaurants, you can easily manage your menu, optimise floor plans, offer advanced discounts, manage orders and coursing, set tips and much more.

Pricing: 

Square for Restaurant Plus has a monthly subscription cost of £69 per location and includes unlimited terminals running the Restaurant POS app. 

Note: If you subscribe to Restaurants Plus on one location, you will not be able to access Restaurant Free Plan on another location for the same account. For more information about pricing, visit our Support Centre. 

Square for Retail 🛍️

Square for Retail offers a full ePOS system that helps simply running your business online and in person. With Square for Retail, your sales, purchase orders, customer directory and reports are fully integrated. There are two subscription options: Square for Retail Free (at no monthly cost) and Square for Retail Plus (at £49 per month, per location). 

If you’ve already created a Square account, upgrading to Retail is simple. Once you subscribe, all of your existing account information will be available with Square for Retail Free or Plus – including your items, customers, bank account information and inventory.

Note: Square for Retail is only available on iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) and Square Register at the moment. 

Square Appointments

Square Appointments is an all-in-one solution that integrates booking software with point of sale. With Square Appointments, you can set up pre-build online booking sites, manage your calendar (and your staff!), control the number of customers visiting your business,  create custom cancellation policy and more. 

Square Appointments also support appointment booking directly through Facebook and Instagram, making it easier for customers to discover and book with you. 

Pricing: 

Square Appointments is free for individuals! Standard processing rates apply, so 1.75% for contactless or chip & pin payments, and 2.5% for manually keyed payments in the Square Point of Sale app and Virtual Terminal. 

If you have staff members who need to access their own calendars, there’s a 30-day free trial. After that, here’s what the pricing looks like:

• 2 to 5 staff: £29/month
• 6 to 10 staff: £69/month
• 11-21+ staff: £119/month*

Square Team Management

Square Team Management helps you manage your team easily across locations, devices and job functions. With Team Management, you can easily set up and control how your team accesses your Point of Sale, assign work schedules, track time cards and more. 

There are two subscription options: Team Permission which is free to use and Team Plus, which has a monthly subscription cost of £20 per location. To compare the plans and see which one is more suitable for your business, visit our Support Centre.
