In the Register system, there is a customer facing display (CFD) that you can use in 1 of two ways: you can attach it to the stand and then it will be static, or you can undock it and have it on the counter, attached via a cable, for the customer to use. Here's Square's site where they instruct you on how to set up the Register system. Scroll down to the Set Up Your Counter section for the CFD setup. I hope you find it as useful as we do in our business. I think you and your customers will be impressed by how fast the chipped-card authorization goes - usually only 1-2 seconds from the insertion of the card.
