New to Square. Do I set up account before ordering?  We will be ordering the $49 EMV reader and need everything up & running (and tested!) before Nov 16 event.

I would sign up first and then order your reader or pick up one locally..  that way if there is an issue you haven't bought hardware you can't use.  readers aren't tied to specific accounts so you can buy at any time.

I have a square reader from using the Evenbrite app. Will that square reader work for your app as well?
