magstripe reader

Hi, I bought a Square reader from Harvey Norman but it did not include the magstripe reader - is it sold separately in Australia?

Thanks for reaching out.

The stand alone magstrip reader has actually been discontinued in Australia, on account of Australian issued cards needing to run through chip or tap.

The main use case we were seeing for these cards were overseas-issued cards from countries yet to adopt chip and tap payments - if you see any of these cards around you'd need to manually key in the transaction, though as other countries adopt new payments technologies they are becoming less frequent.
