Introducing ✨ New and Improved ✨ Reopen Checks in Square for Restaurants!

We’re excited to announce that we’ve launched an updated version of reopen checks in Square for Restaurants!

What does this mean? Starting today, you're able to reopen a check, make adjustments, and checkout, all while retaining the original payment method. We know mistakes happen, and now with reopen, you don’t have to worry, you can deal with any changes seamlessly, behind the scenes.

If you’re already subscribed to Square for Restaurants, you’ll need to enable this feature; head to your Square Dashboard, navigate to Points of Sale, Service Settings, and Reopen Checks. You’ll now have the option to reopen checks and keep the payment method, or refund your customer.

Moving forward, when you sign up for Square for Restaurants, keeping the payment method will be your default, but you can always adjust from your Service Settings.

Note: To fully settle all transactions and view those transactions on dashboard, including cash payments, please run close of day at the end of the night. If you forget to do this, no worries - all payments will automatically settle at 36 hours.

For more information on getting started, check out Support Center.

This is a great feature, however cash sales no longer show on the dashboard for the current day. Nor do they show in any reports for the current day which is kind of confusing.

Thanks for your comment @NeilTimms. You have to run close of day for all sales to fully settle and appear on your Dashboard. Alternatively, if you don't run close of day, sales will settle after the 36 hour window. Hope this helps, but if you have any other qeustions let me know!

Thanks, yes i know this, and like i say this is a great feature. It has just made the home page of the dashboard useless because it doesn't have all the sales data on it. Somehow the credit card sales show up on it but the cash sales do not. I cannot at any time during the day have a quick look at the dashboard and have any kind of accurate data. I will continue using this option but hope that can be resolved somehow. Thanks.

Hello again! You're right, with this new update your cash sales won't appear until the close of day is run. I went aheand and shared your comments with Restaurants team who are working to improve the Dashboard reporting. Thank you for the feedback and I'm glad to hear this new version of reopen checks helps!

Would have been great if you would have announced in the  ‘New and improved’  that you would completely have to change the way you do end of day. I want to be able to see my sales immediately. We have never had to run a batch or anything before it was always just done automatically. I had to call tech-support to figure out why we had zero sales and they told me it was user error. I figured out on my own that I had to turn off this new feature. I would rather see my sales daily then have to worry about reopening tabs - we rarely have to do that anyway. If I have to choose one, I’m choosing to see my sales immediately and get my money faster. Come on Square, that cannot be the top feature request.

Thank you for your feedback @J2B. I'll share your comment with the Restuarants team to see if we can include more information about how this change affects how you run your close of day. I'm very sorry for the confusion this caused, appreciate you taking the time to let us know.
