Introducing Square Register

Square Register is our first fully-integrated point of sale system with a dedicated display for your customers, that also lets you manage in-person payments, online sales, in-store pickup and delivery, all from one POS—right out of the box. Square Register is built entirely by Square so you can sell confidently knowing everything just works.

Square Register features a detachable, versatile customer-facing screen to let your customers see their cart being built, select tips, pay and manage their Loyalty rewards on their own. The dedicated customer display’s built-in payments terminal accepts all tap, insert or swipe credit and INTERAC Debit payments, and keeps your line moving quickly.

Square Register can be used with the free Square Point of Sale software, as well as Square for Retail, Square for Appointments, and Square for Restaurant (free tier). 

Finally, you can also connect printers, cash drawers and scanners to your Square Register, using USB or Ethernet depending on the accessory. Check out a full list of our supported hardware on our Support Centre.

Square Register is available for purchase outright for $899 CAD (or 12 interest-free instalments of $75/month) or as a kit with accessories included for $1,696 on Square Shop. As with any other Square product—you can count on transparent rates, no monthly fees, and no contracts. Please note:  At launch, Square Registers will take 2-3 weeks to start shipping.

My customers have loved the Square register! It's easy to use, the customer display offers transparency for what they are purchasing so there are no surprises, and the payment is easy to process.

Hi, I have a question about the Square register. Can customers add tips on the customer display or do we have to show our cash register screen for them to add their tips like the square terminal? @Crystal72 @nika @Helen

I don't accept tips at my retail store but I did check to see if it's possible. You would need to turn on the tipping feature and then choose what percentages you want to have available. I found this easy to find on the Square Register. I added a link to the  instructions to help you set this up. If anyone uses tips currently could you confirm if my information is accurate?

Thank you for your reply about the tipping. I am ok for setting up the tipping system on Square. I've been using the square terminal and square reader with the tipping feature for a while. I just wanted to ask the community about the customer display if it has a screen for tipping after pressing the charge button. The difference between the square reader +iPad and the square register is the customer display has a display. If a customer wants to add tip from the square reader +iPad, we have to show the iPad screen to the customer in order to add tip. We have to do the similar thing for the square terminal. Once I was trying to connect iPad to Sqare terminal but it doesn't allow us to do so. Anyway, my question is whether customers can add tip on the customer display or restaurant staff have to show customers the main display in order to add tip. Hope somebody who has the register and uses the tipping feature will answer my question...

@Yoshi Yes, the customer is prompted on the customer display to add a tip if you have it turned on. Your staff can bypass it on their screen if you want but by default it will show up on the customer display for the customer to add a tip.

I purchased the square stand a couple months ago (still in box) and then this was released. It is such a better option but apparently I cannot exchange :(. So annoying.

I am so excited for this!  Waiting a long time, what are the dimensions of the customer facing register?  I need to make sure it'll fit on my counter space.

Hello, pls correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't install another app in the square register right?
It's not like an iPad that I can have ..2, 3 apps running in the background with Square,like spotify, homebase.. maybe a courier app..

That's correct. 

While you can't download and run 3rd party apps directly onto Square Register, if you use an integration with third party apps you can still access all your data from your Square Dashboard.
