[New] Square Subscriptions now Available on the Square Appointments Point of Sale Mobile App

Hi Sellers!

Now you can offer subscriptions directly through the Square Appointments point of sale mobile app!  This is a great way to sign up your customers at check-out to subscriptions that your business offers. Conversely, you can also cancel an existing subscription. Additionally, you can use Subscriptions to easily look up whether a customer has an active subscription with your business.

How it works

When a customer is at your point of sale, you can offer to subscribe them to an existing subscription plan. You will be able to pick the subscription plan through Square Appointments and then add the customer to the plan. After that, your customer will be billed automatically for the subscription through the chosen payment method (Eg. Card on File or Invoice).

How to get started

You can find the Subscriptions option under “More” on the Square Appointments point of sale mobile app. You will also need to create subscription plans through the Square Web Dashboard (you cannot currently create subscription plans through the Square Appointments mobile app). Once plans are created, they will be automatically available on the Square Appointments point of sale mobile app. Find out more on how to create subscription plans through your Square Dashboard.

What does it cost?

Subscriptions is available to anyone using Square Appointments (Free, Plus or Premium) at no additional charge. You will only pay processing fees.

For more information on getting started with Subscriptions, check out our support article.

So how are we supposed to track appointments for services? Adding more of a headache and confusion for both the owner and customers.

The idea is great, need to add the ability to schedule and record that they are prepaid.

Hey there, @Jason99

I appreciate the feedback here. One workaround for this is they could call in to book their appointment. They could let you know they are part of the subscription plan you are offering and have already paid. I know this isn't as convenient as online booking, but it could work for now.

If you would like, you can also submit your suggestion to our Ideate Board in the Seller Community. Our Product Teams keep their eyes on this form as they are constantly working to improve our products and features: https://squ.re/ideate

Suggesting common sense ideas for half finished projects gets old. This literally adds more work rather than making it a convenient service for either party.

it leads to disputes, and confusion on both sides if not tracked properly. To sell online we have to pay for the upgrade in effect paying to work more.

do better.

Hey @Jason99

We are currently working with the appointments team on an integration that allows you to create a packaged membership experience and track the number of outstanding credits and the redemption of those credits. Customers can redeem credits directly through the Appointments booking experience. The first use case the team is tackling is Fitness memberships (e.g. 10-pack yoga classes that automatically renew on a monthly basis). We expect to start recruiting for an early access program later this year (someone on our team will reach out when the program kicks off). In the meantime if you are interested in participating in our "Packages" early access program, let us know and we can get you onboarded. "Packages" allow you to create a 10-pack massage package (one-time purchase) and sell it to your customers. This is an easy way to sell in bulk while offering customers an easy credit tracking and redemption experience.

This is how it should have been released. Paying another $360+ a year for website upgrade to sell subscriptions that can't be tracked I just don't understand. Great they are working on a solution, that might be available in a year.... a year to late as there are better solutions out there.  And again we are all waiting for 3+ years now to get savings to sync with quickbooks. Basic common sense things that should be addressed before releasing a service that we all PAY for.
