Square Appointments has reduced the card-present payment processing rate for subscribers. The new processing rate is 1.6% per card-present payment, including contactless, mobile or chip and PIN payments. This rate will apply when processing card-present payments through Square Appointments on any Square device, including Square Reader, Square Stand, and Square Register.
For active Square Appointments subscribers, there’s no action needed on your part - the reduced rate has already been applied to your account.
Keep in mind the following:
- The processing rate for card-not-present payments, including manually keyed-in or Card on File payments, will remain at 2.2% per payment.
- If you cancel your Square Appointments subscription, your card-present processing rate will change to 1.9% when using Square Reader or Square Stand and 1.6% when using Square Register.
- These rates are only applicable to payments processed using Square Appointments, whether through your mobile device, tablet, or Square Register. Rates for other Square products, such as Square Point of Sale, may vary.
