Android receipt printers issues

I'm switching my set-up from PayPal Here to Square and I've got a weird problem that I'm hoping has a simple fix.

My set-up is a take-out food court set-up. There are multiple windows to order product.  A receipt printer is at every window.  When a customer orders they get a receipt with an order number printed.  There is a common kitchen printer and a common "fryer" printer.

When I only have one order window running it works great.  A receipt is printed, a kitchen tag is printed with every thing on it and the "fryer" printer prints ony the fried items.

The moment I turn on the second order window the display keeps flashing "printer connected" then "printer disconneted" for the common printers.  If it gets busy I'm getting printer errors where it tells me to reprint the orders.

Seems weird the same set-up was flawless under PayPal Here.

The Android Tablets are Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 and the printers are Star Micronics TSP654IIE3.

Please help - I have a large event this week end and I do not want to have to switch back to PayPal for it...

Hey @Geogreek, thanks for posting and sorry to hear about the printing issues. It sounds like you're definitely using supported hardware.

So that I can get a better picture of how everything is set up can you confirm the following:

  • Are the common kitchen printer and fryer printer are configured exactly the same way in your printer settings at each order station?

  • How far is the kitchen from your order station? You may want to double check to make sure that your router is providing enough of a signal to maintain a strong connection between all of the tablets and the printers.

  • Is there any other information that shows up with the error messages that you're receiving?

If, after checking these items, you're still having trouble — please give these troubleshooting tips a try. Please let us know how it goes by either replying here or contacting our Support team directly.

Thank you for the quick reply.

To answer your questions:

1) Yes, they are configured identically.

2) This is a food court for a fundraiser.  The way it is configured is quite simple.

     - I use a AmpedWireless repeater to repeat the main signal.  The repeater has an Ethernet RJ45 port.

     - All the Tablets connect to the repeated signal in the food booth.

     - I plug the Ethernet cable from the repeater into a 4 port switch.

     - All printers are connected to this switch.  (two receipt printers, kitchen printer, and fryer printer).

     - All terminals are within 15 feet of eachother.

     - The signal is very strong.

I'm suspecting that your app is not using the PORT9100 multi-session mode properly.  Because as soon as one tablet connects the other disconnects and vice-versa.  Note: this never happened with PayPal Here or with the other two programs we used in the past.

It seems my only option at this point is to put double printers and make sure and dedicate one kitchen printer to each tablet and one fryer printer to each tablet.  I just bought two USB-versions of the same printers to use as receipt printers (they come in today).  I'm hoping your app is smart enough to use USB and Ethernet printers at the same time.  So I can put two kitchen and two fryer printers.

Thanks for taking the time to provide that information. It sounds like that setup should work though I don't have further details on third party hardware, such as wifi repeaters.

If you're still encountering any issues with getting this to work with the new USB printers, you may want to check in with an IT specialist such as Boomtown, who can provide on-site support for Square Register setup. Otherwise, feel free to contact our Support team directly and we can have a closer look into account specifics.

Thank you for your patience, and please don't hesitate to reply with any other updates or insight.
