Can I adjust business hours on Square Online for a holiday?

We will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday and I want to allow orders to keep coming in but I would like to let our customers know that they won't be able to pick up on Monday. Is there a way to "block out" Monday from a pick up day? If I change the business hours, it could show us closed EVERY Monday not just Memorial day...any fix to this?

Thank you for your patience as our teams worked hard to get this feature ready for use!

You can now set restricted dates at the location level to manage days on which you do not want to accept pickup and delivery orders. Head to your Online Overview page, select Settings > Pickup & delivery > select a location. Once here, pick a location, and you'll see Restricted dates:

Click Restricted dates to edit your hours - then scroll down on this page to find the Restricted dates section, and click Add date to start adding restricted dates. Feel free to check the box next to Repeat every year if your business is always closed on this specific date:

When  youre building the announcement pop up, there's a "style and content" tab and a "settings" tab. You go to the "settings" tab and go down to "schedule" and  click "set duration." You can set the date it starts and ends after that!  I hope that helps!!

This reply was created from merging an existing thread: Re: Can I open up special holiday hours for a certain day, without changing it to everyday/ week?

Hi! I am trying to figure out how to customize both our hours as well as our pick up hours for the holidays. I just tried the solution you suggested, but when I go to place a test order and schedule the pick up for a later date the new hours are not being reflected. To give a more concrete example, we're usually not open on Tuesdays, but we will be open on Christmas Eve this year. Our customers are having a hard time placing online orders for Christmas Eve because they cannot select that day for pick up... I'm trying to find a work around for this.

Thanks so much!

Hey @joannabspdx

I checked in with one of our specialists to get an answer. As it stands right now, you'll either need to make Tuesdays your day for pick ups only, or wait until the week of to make Christmas Eve your pick up day.

Sorry for the trouble! Hopefully we'll have a better way to go about this in the future.

Is there a way to set the custom hours for a web store? I don't offer services; I only offer pickup for my products that are ordered online. I usually allow the pick up every day, but I will not be home on Sunday this weekend, so I just want to set it so that Sunday is not a pickup option this week.

Thanks for posting and welcome to Seller Community, @Teithril. There isn't a way to schedule something like that for just one week, so you'll want to edit your pickup hours for this week to omit Sunday, then next week edit them again to include Sunday again.

This is going to be such a nightmare for bakeries!

SUCH a nightmare! Truly not sure how I will navigate Thanksgiving and Christmas pickups in our bakery. The fact that you haven't integrated a calendar to pickups or allowed us to set "Special Hours" like every other platform out there, is the reason you'll be losing customers. To have to fiddle with days, hours, pickup times, prep times and all of that just to get something close to what I need is something this business owner, working mom just doesn't have time for.

Yes!

“Special Hours” similar to the current “Restricted Dates”, but the opposite — days I want added to my client’s selection for availability. Not every Tuesday, but Valentine’s Day, the Fourth of July, Halloween, etc next year, for preorder now.

It is a nightmare!! We were hoping that something would roll out in time for the holidays and switching to another system just isnt possible right now. Thats what infuriating.  Square has had ample time & they continue to roll out features that people are not asking for but not the ones so many of us need. Because many people shifted to this unexpected business model 8 mo ago & square talks about helping small businesses' but where is the help!?! I had to end up taking phone orders and a google form to process my orders because there was no way to take Christmas orders ahead of time and my weekly menu leading up to it.  AS if we all ding have enough on our plates.

On top of that charging us 50 cents per delivery order when they do nothing is absurd.  I mean why do they not charge for pickup but they charge for delivery, its not like they perform the delivery or like there is anything different between the order types.

I appreciate they went to the effort to provide this service, but as usual half assed it.

Super Seller

i can see seasonal hours being of use for our business.

1) We open in May.

2) Add additional hours on Weekends in October,

3) Shorten hours in Nov and Dec.

4) Close on Christmas Eve for the Season.

We are looking at taking orders online for the bakery.  Looking at this post, the hour changes may prove to be problematic

I was wondering the same, perhaps if we either update Monday as closed, or change delivery default time to 1 day? We just have to be sure to change it back Monday night.

I have not been able to find any other way to establish holiday closing dates.

Good luck and stay safe y'all

Hello @pueblovida,

Thank you for posting in the Seller Community. Welcome.

At the moment we do not have a feature to roll out "holiday hours" into your Online Store's schedule. We definitely see how this could benefit your business model, and many others as well.

In the meantime, we recommend going with the suggestion made by @delice and changing your default delivery time or adjusting your settings for one day, then going back to revert things to normal.

Our teams are constantly looking through our seller's feedback to make necessary improvements, and we will be sure to let you know if anything ever changes or if new updates are released.

Square if you want to be in this game of online ordering you guys need to step it up to include a lot of things that restaurants  need. Go copy from the big boys like door dash, Ubereats Grubhub and check out the way they do things. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel copy what others are doing. This is very frustrating

I had to go another route with google forms to have people preorder (hope & prayed they showed uyp) for Thanksgiving since I could not operate my weekly "online store" and have a different section with preorder for Thanksgiving pick up. I am very fortunate to have a great group of core customers that are understanding. If Square could 1-allow the ASAP option to be removed and 2 be able to isolate items for certain days but ALLOW PREORDERS.  Right now yes theres that option but only for the day of so those of us doing preorders this platform just isnt working. I was really hoping by the holidays they could make these fixes since we are 8 mo into this and is going to be this way for awhile.  But didnt make it by Thanksgiving and we are knee deep into Christmas.  The "new features" that have been rolled out dont see to help many people.  I wish more attention would be made to what people are asking for,

I just opened my florist part-time working out of my home.  Just looked this thread up (2.3.2021), and being most posts are from last July, I'm curious why Square hasn't yet accommodated the Pre-Order button or how to change your business hours to be open for a holiday?

I'm not open on Sunday, but our biggest holiday- Valentine's Day, is on Sunday this year.

I would like to let my customers know I'm taking orders and delivering that day.

So are you saying that has yet to be added?  If so, is the only work around, to wait like a week before Valentine's Day and change by Sunday hours to open and then change back following day?  Not that inconvenient but a feature for this would be appreciated.

This is very standard with every other platform. Google Business listings, Yelp, Facebook, plus every single Third-party order fulfillment service and has been for years. Please stop waiting for us to point out the obvious and learn from every other platform that knows what its doing.

This may be one of the biggest reasons Square loses clients to other ordering systems. We use Ecwid on our site to allow us to at least control the hours that people can pick up vs the hours we are open. But we need to be able to block out holidays and other days we might not be open. We get orders for Thanksgiving up to 45 days in advance. We cannot simply set our hours to "closed on Thursdays" in October to stop people from scheduling pickup on Thanksgiving. BUT, I will also point out that it is very hard to find an online ordering system integrated with POS that offers this ability.
