Discounts are being disbursed to all items in the sale

We would like to offer a discount and apply it only to a Tasting Flight.  Currently it distributes the $8 discount to all items in the Sale.  We are not allowed to discount bottles of liquor.  I then added the Tasting Flight as a specific item.  Although the distribution is now correct for only applying to the Tasting Flight, it automatically applies this discount.  We would prefer to manually apply the discount, and also have it limited to a specific item or category.

Is this possible?

You can edit the discounts you have created and then select the specific items that you want to have this discount, as well you have the option to apply it manually or automatically to these items. Main menu > Items > Discounts > Select the discount > Enable or disable the "apply automatically" option

This is a frustrating change for us: I have a 'variable discount' for deposit returns on merchandise that now spreads that deposit return across all items in the sale. I cannot make rules for variable discounts, and there's no way to apply the discount to a particular item since the item was purchased on a different ticket and it's deposit returned weeks or months later! The 'Old way' of applying a variable dollar-amount discount simply put the discounted price as a line item on the receipt... why did this need to change, and importantly, how do I get it back?

Important: When submitting a request, make sure to include the desired feature, and provide the details of how this feature will help your business succeed (how would you use it and what you expect from it).

anyone seeing this thread from here out: you can 'select' how discounts are reflected on the receipt by toggling the "Show total savings row when more than one discount is applied" radio button under Settings > Account & Settings > Business > Receipt > Items and total.
