Does a customer have to use their loyalty rewards?

We are converting our shop over to Square and from a loyalty program to the one built into Square.  We have several customers that choose not to use their loyalty rewards until they have accumulated to give them a higher credit.  As an example - $1 spent = 1 reward.  When they get to $100, they get a $10 credit.  We have one customer that has over 400 points or a $40 credit.  She chooses not to apply them to her purchases as she wants to accumulate them for a "rainy day" when she might need something and be short on funds.  When a customer checks out on Square, will it automatically deduct their loyalty points or will there be an option not to use them on the current sale?

Hey @shiboridragon — great question. Thanks for bringing this up!

Your customer will be given a specific code for each loyalty reward that they receive. They have control over when they choose to redeem their reward. In addition, they'll be able to keep track of which rewards are available by referring to the "you have unredeemed rewards" section on their digital receipt.

Here's an example on where to look.

Hope this clears things up! Please let us know if you have any further questions. 🙂
