In the US that is how it works, but since you're, asking I'm assuming you're in Canada and then no the debit cards need to be run as a contacless tap payment (and you'll want to as the fees are lower).

Thanks, I am in the US. The system we currently use  (no chip reader or touch pay) was set up that way. I have not bought any Square hardware yet, so I wasn't sure. I have  only downloaded program and playing with it to make sure it will do what we need. So far it looks perfect!

Well then, Square will run the debit cards just like credit cards in the US so you should be good.

Thanks @VanKalkerFarms - that's right, in the US debit cards are often processed like credit cards (keep in mind, this will only work for debit cards with a Visa or Mastercard symbol).
