Recommendation for use of Square rewards for advertising instead of only for customer retention

I'm a customer and only came across this program because a new restaurant that I went to allowed customers to sign up. I've been trying to learn how to search for other local businesses that have such rewards programs without having to accidentally stumble upon them, since that seems to be how this program is set up. This would make for excellent advertising instead of only being useful for customer retention as it is now.

Thanks for posting, as that is an interesting thought for the Square Marketing tool. 

It was built for customer engagement and retention, with each seller leveraging their Customer Directory to send announcements and campaigns, as well as rewards, to existing customers. 

Hopefully a Square Seller can chime in with more ideas around this.
