We were looking at Afterpay for our square website online store and wondered if anyone knew if this was possible?
EDIT 01/01/2022: Afterpay is now available with Square Online! We'll continue to work on integrating Afterpay across Square's product ecosystem, availability with Square Online is just the start ๐
EDIT 02/08/2021: Square has just announced plans to acquire Afterpay. While we don't have integration timelines to share at the moment, read our update for more!

@jhughe @Handpoked I totally understand the frustration here - having read and responded to dozens of comments such as yours over a long period of time, I'm aware of the impact that a lack of Afterpay support has on Square Online sellers who value having it as a payment method.
You won't currently find a bigger internal advocate for Afterpay support at Square than myself, and the feedback and comments we see on our Seller Community are something I regularly pass on to internal teams.

I have just been informed by Afterpay that the website is not compatible then I found this thread. I am so devastated. I hope there will be som updates on this soon. Even if the card version of Afterpay, this would definitely helps more customers to make the decision to purchase.
For a newbie in small business that goes to markets, I have been advocating for square website to my small business owners neighbours, I feel that this is a big let down.
gutted, is there any other afterpay type platforms that work with square,

Hi @paintimperfect,
Not that we've come across. Square was toying with their own BNPL in the US but it looks like they aren't continuing it anymore so I doubt we'll get something of theirs in Aus.
PayPal Pay in 4 is coming soon though. Basically any day, it was due early June. It will likely work similarly to Afterpay Card for in store purchases, but is a third of the cost for merchant fees.
Square Online already supports PayPal and PayPal has said it will work within their existing payment infrastructure, so I'd say just hold out for that.
You can register for updates here if it interests you: https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/pay-in-4
Hope that helps!

Hello
PayPal are about to put up their merchant fees, but will still be cheaper then afterpay, again I have to ask what is stopping square from having afterpay as an option.

Hi @jhughe
Like I said a few weeks ago, I don't think it's necessarily just Square.
I'd say early on it would have been potentially a conflict for Square to support another BNPL if they were looking at doing their own (which they were according to articles online). It's the reality we live in with most platforms โ not just Square. As a Squarespace user, we miss out on certain features with them too because they clearly don't want to support certain competitor integrations (ie they don't support Square POS in Australia or have any solid integrations with Square).
I'd say now at this point in the Square / Afterpay world its probably mutual that neither have setup integrations. At the end of the day it has to be a mutual integration, Square can't just flick a switch and its all of a sudden supported, Afterpay would have to be involved in that process, and who knows, maybe they're the hold up?
I reckon its worth also applying pressure on the Afterpay end and see what they have to say. I'd be keen to hear if they tell you anything that would be worth sharing back in this thread.
There are also other platforms out there that do support Afterpay. If you're intent on the integration, maybe its worth exploring how another system stacks up for you (in my research most are $$ in comparison and lack other features / simplicity Square has, so its worth weighing up your unique business wants / needs).
As mentioned earlier, we felt Squarespace worked better for our business for the ecom / online aspect, but we live for Square Appointments in store (its awesome!). Squarespace only literally just started supporting Afterpay (but only via Stripe, so not technically really on their end). I read several of their forums similar to this one with people really annoyed they had no BNPL support, so its a fairly wide issue. Before supporting Afterpay, we were using manual 'buy buttons' on Shopify to support Afterpay through hard coded buttons on our Squarespace site - it was pretty annoying, but we don't particularly rate Shopify from the design aspect, so were prepared to do this to stay on Squarespace.

Is there a way to offer a pay later option? Or does it require an additional app or platform to be able to do this?

Hi there, @_aniandco ๐Thanks for reaching out!
I've gone ahead and merged your post into an existing thread of Sellers who were also looking for information regarding options for customers to pay as they go, or at a later time via installments. Take a look at this Best Answer here from Sheamus for more information.
Let us know if you have any questions in the meantime! We are here to help.

Does this mean afterpay is available on a weekly store if the payments go through square?

Hey @Honeyblossom,
Afterpay is currently available with Square Online websites, however not with Weebly Classic websites. If you're currently using a Weebly Classic website, you'd need to create a seperate Square Online website for Afterpay functionality.

Thanks Seamus, I have a square online store with aftterpay, I'm also wondering bow if I can change it's domain name? I already have the domain name I'd like to use transferred over from weebly to square but when I try to connect it to the square site it keeps automatically disconnecting. Is there something I can do with the DNS settings? I had a long chat today with square support online and I thought the transfer was made but it didn't work. I thought i had disconnected the current domain from the square site but it's still registered until July so not sure how this works!

@Honeyblossom keep in mind that it usually takes around 48 hours for a transfer to come into effect - support are actually going to be more helpful than I'm able to here, and we have dedicated Square Online specialists who are able to look into your specific account backend and settings to solve issues like this.
If you're not sure if things have been properly resolved, I recommend calling our support hotline and asking to speak with a Square Online specialist. You can call on 1800 760 137. Lines are open Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Melbourne time!

Hi all,
Not sure if its been mentioned yet or not but Squarespace has finally now got Afterpay integration via Stripe. We've used Squarespace purely just because it fit our business needs better (particularly on the e-com aspects, and compared to Shopify, its much more intuitive and affordable). Stripe looks like it will also be bringing Klarna to Australia too. Won't be surprised if Zip jumps on the same band wagon in the future.

Seamus
As you say you pass this information onto the teams well maybe you should pass it onto mangement, because their is overwhelming evidence for square to add bnpl intergation, so I am asking the question why wont they, its obvious they dont care what their customers are saying.

I agree, but in all honesty, itโs a two way street. Afterpay charges a bomb to merchants yet they get away with providing minimal support and almost no integrations. Itโs not just on Square, whilst I also find it frustrating, it annoys me more that we pay ridiculous fees to Afterpay and they never come to the party with support.
Even just setting up our Stripe integration was a painful experience because Afterpay wouldnโt help yet they imposed all these ridiculous business category restrictions on Stripe. Weโre a barber shop and we sell our own product online. Stripe saw this as a โserviceโ category under Afterpayโs rules and Afterpay has tied their hands in being the enforcer and prohibiting โserviceโ businesses using Afterpay online. It took weeks of back and forth with Stripe to get them to look at the situation practically, and that was that we donโt provide services online (obviously!). We reached out to Afterpay several times through different channels (even resorted to Twitter), and I kid you not, we got absolutely no response! Did get a feedback survey of course though! Stripe eventually realised it was ridiculous and recategorises us but just shows Afterpay doesnโt care about their merchants when it comes to helping them out solve something (the Afterpay Card is yet another fine example of this - all about the glossy marketing, but no practical assistance for merchants to onboard / rollout).
Square on the other hand is very helpful when it comes to supporting sellers, despite lacking a few features, which we just work around because there is a lot of other aspects to love. And they arenโt charging as much as Afterpay for their service. I say Afterpay should be upping their game and coming to the party more on integrations themselves before we put all the responsibility solely on Square in this instance.

Also should have said, once PayPal launches their Pay in 4, weโre probably going to ditch Afterpay - purely just because of the rubbish experience and extremely high fees. Square Online already supports PayPal so Pay in 4 should work on that front (PayPal has made it clear it will work within their existing systems).

Yes we are going to be using the paypal in 4 because their are no extra fees, and as you say, it should already work on the front end.
