Barcode Scanner to Read SKU and Price for Weight-Based Items

Barcode Scanner to Read SKU and Price for Weight-Based Items

The barcodes on our seafood products contain both the Product SKU and the weight-based Price for each individual item. We need to be able to read the barcode with the Bluetooth scanners and have Square extract/interpret both the Product SKU and Package Price from each barcode that we scan. This would speed up our operation tremendously and completely eliminate any hand-keyed errors and re-work. How do we do this?

Thanks,

Gary

It turns out that a C-Level executive at Square is also a customer of ours. Long story short is that I had a productive concall with some smart people at Square a couple of weeks ago. They understand our needs here and are working to develop a game plan to address the capabaility gap.

Wondering how things are going? I am opening a second retail site and had thought of using Square as I have been using Revel at my first retail store. This is a deal breaker for me if Square does not have the ability to read random weight barcodes as I am in the meat business and everything I sell is weighed.

Thanks for checking in @RJ_Knack! I don't have a timeline on when this feature will be available, I'm sorry it's a dealbreaker for you at this time.

We'll definitely announce any updates in this post to let subscribers know.

Interested in this topic as well for our butcher shop. We currently use Revel because of price embedded barcodes from our scales.

Currently they developed articles with weight but the scanner does not interpret the label.

What do you mean?  Weight can now be a characteristic of a fixed-price product? What we all need is for a connected barcode scanner to read price-embedded barcodes that we already put on our products.

@Helen very interested in this feature as well. Thank you.

Yes, they recently released pricing by weight for POS and it's quite flexible (so you could manually enter in the net weight of an item and it will calculate the price), but their barcode scanner unfortunately still cannot interpret price-embedded barcodes. We are very much looking forward to this feature as well.

@Helen Hi Helen, any update by chance? Thank you!

Not yet @policenauts! You can now connect a scale to sell items by weight but we don't have an update on being able to use a scanner to read a weight-based barcode. We'll share any good news here!
