Square Register: Searching for items on 'Add Item to Grid' screen

We are using Square Register.

It would be helpful when trying to add an item to the grid to have the option to search for an item vs. having to scroll through the entire list to find the item we'd like to add to the grid on the home screen.

I'm a new user trying to set up my item grid in Square Register.  I know how to set up pages and label them, but I'm having a problem when I go to add an item to one of the pages.  When I press on an empty item key, I go to the edit screen, but there is no search feature to find individual items to add to the grid.  Since I have almost 9,000 items in my store, this results in a LOT of scrolling to get to the desired item.  Is there a search feature that I'm missing?  I can't believe Square doesn't have this  capability, but I can't find it if they do.

Good catch! The POS app for iOS has this feature, and it definitely seems like an oversight that the Square Register does not.

Hopefully your post will catch the attention of the Register team and they'll add in this super important feature soon!

In the meantime, if you happen to have an iPad you can set up your item Grid on that and it will automatically sync over to your register.

Thanks for the reply.  It just boggles my mind that Square hasn't added this to the Register.  Especially since we can't edit the item grid from the dashboard, only the Register device itself.

I’d love to be able to have the grid on my iPhone. If I borrow an iPad to set it up, will it show up on my iPhone?

@Mscheapskate We don't have a way to add the grid on the iPhone. But this is a request we've heard before and are continuing to track. I'll make sure this gets to the correct team!

Thank you! Having experience at my old restaurant job with the Square app on the iPad is why I chose to use the app in my new bistro. Unfortunately, I didn’t know it wouldn’t work the same on my iPhone. 😞 I’d really love to sort the items, instead of having them all willy nilly in a list. If I would borrow an iPad to arrange them, how would it look on my phone? Still the same or no?

Even if you do organize these on the iPad, the list is still going to populate the same way. It will prioritize alphabetically or numerically, so a typical work around is to number your items in the way you'd like to them to appear in the list, or to make sure you are consistently naming them so they an sort alphabetically.

You should additionally have the option to search for a particular item, which on iPhone should help out a bit.

When will the search and item addition be added to register - for which I paid - as opposed to the free app? The search function on register is tedious at best .

@judyschmitz It sounds like the Item Grid would help if it was available on Register! That's a feature request we're tracking in this thread.

HOnestly, there are so many things wrong with REGISTER  that its hard to fathom whether it was ever tested properly. Why would you add this to the free app, and not the 1,000 hardware app. OMG.
