Will Square ever make itself available to the Windows Surface and Phone Platforms?

Will Square ever make itself available to the Windows Surface and Phone Platforms?

I have windows phones, mostly due to functional necessities. However, I do need to use a swip card for upcoming conventions.  Will Square ever work with Windows Phone?  Or should I look into another service?

Also, being forced to "ask the community" instead of an actual square representative is more than a little disconcerting regarding how Square operates.

I’m confused. Why are you not using Square Appointments? It’s free for individuals. I apologize in advance as I’m not great at going back and reading every reply in the thread.

@smk1616 - We don't have any sort of ETA to share, but we'll be sure to pass along the feature request!

Add another annoyed seller to the list re: lack of Windows compatability!  I'm AMAZED I won't be able to use my new Surface 4 at a show I'm doing this weekend.  It never even occurred to me that was a possibility!  Since we're now using the Surface to run our mobile business, we now have to lug our I-Pad along with us - which is just ridiculous.  ... I don't get your choice to not make a compatiable version for Windows devices... guess we'll have to re-evaluate our Square usage and see if there's a competitor that does support Windows devices.  Bummer!

This is me speaking as a user personally, not a Square developer (which I am not).

Microsofts mobile os is a minefield with multiple non compatiable Operating Systems and killing Windows RT, and Rebranding.

Since Windows phone is down to .3% market share and falling each quarter it is a dead OS and there is no point to devoting large amounts of personnel and capital to developing and maintaining an app for what many Mobile OS tracking companies are not even tracking anymore.  It is basically dead like blackberry.

Surface I could possibly see as a viable os, it has a tablet/PC market share of under 10% but Square is a mobile app company.  They don't make apps for MacOS, Windows 10, or Chrome.  So they may not see Surface as a viable percentage of the market since Apple and Android make up 90+% of the tablet market.

Still incredibly short-sighted. Many business organizations (including -- here in Vegas -- Boyd Gaming, MGM Mirage, and Sands, Inc.)are moving to Office365 as their office software suite in order to keep using the market-dominant products most people in the business world are familiar with (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and be able to do so seamlessly across multiple platforms (desktop, tablet, phone, laptop, online, etc.). I my self just switched to from hardware-based Office products to Office365 for that same reason, and there's no way I am going to carry two devices with me just to make sure I can accept a credit card -- I'll just close my Square account and shift to PayPal.

Hi @mbrown3039. You definitely make some good points here. We totally understand that Windows computers/tablets/phones are essentials tools to many businesses. While I can't offer any sort of update here regarding our POS app, I can let you know that we're working hard on our Virtual Terminal feature that allows you to take payments using a web browser. You can also send invoices from the Dashbaord. While I know this doesn't' work for every business case - we hear ya! We'll be sure to offer any future updates here. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback!

Please continue working on an app available for use on Windows phones. We are a techy bunch and looking for secure merchant services. Thank you!

Has there been any additional information or recent developments as to when the browser dashboard POS will become available? I am using a Surface and this would be extremely helpful as opposed to having to use/obtain a secondary device. It'd be nice to have some sort of timeline as to when  some of these updates may be happening, as I noticed a lot of these posts are from last year.

Hi @K-LE - thanks for making your first post to the 👥 community.

I don't have a timeline available at this time. I will be sure to add you to the list of sellers requesting this feature and let our Product Team know.

We have had mixed success running a mobile OS emulator with the Square app on a Windows 10 laptop. I don't recall if the card swipe reader works in a computer's headphones jack (probably not)... But the app is functional. I didn't like the lag time that is present with most emulators, so I just default to an ipad.
