How can I add a negative modifier?

How can I add a negative modifier?

I want to add a modifier that will decrease the price. How can I do this?

Good luck with that.  The lack of a negative modifier is clearly an intentional design decision.   I doubt they will ever change it.

Why do you think this? Is there a benefit to square?

Super Seller

I’m fascinated and deflated that 6 years after this post originated, in addition to the many times I’ve requested it in the years prior to the creation of this Seller Community platform, that @Square hasn’t seen it as a priority to implement this feature, one that is standard practice going back to pre-digital era cash registers.

I’m not one for pointing fingers but it does seem at this point that it’s exclusion isn’t by default but rather, design.

Anyone?

This seems like such a simple change. Why not just do It? It would help many users, including us. So there is nothing in it for Square?  Then make it a plus feature. Add another reason to upgrade.

My last steps switching to square:
Import modifiers/negative modifiers ("no" options)
Train Staff

Now I'm not sure I can move forward with the switch...

How is this still not a feature?

Wondering the same.  I'm putting a basic tare onto the scales but its aggravating  that I cant set different amounts for different items due to squares negligence on this

I need this! @Square

Hello, We are a brewery. I am in need a keg return option, negative item on my invoices. My customers are asking for it and comparing to other breweries being able to do it. I am using regular refund option now, but our customers want something else. Please help. If this doesn`t become a feature we will need to look into other app/software.

@ACromphout if your customers are getting keg credits while purchasing additional items, you can add the $30 keg deposit as a discount (Square Dashboard > Items > Discounts). That will wash out the $30 for the new keg with the -$30 for the return of the previous keg (or just apply -$30 against whatever bottles or other product they purchase).

Otherwise, if they are solely returning a keg with no new purchase, you’ll have to give it as a refund.

Square just simply doesn’t listen to us anymore, as you can see with this negative modifier request from many years ago.

Recently received a negative review from a customer, do to the fact that Square doesn't allow for negative-value modifiers or the ability to add fixed-price discounts directly to items.

In this case, we have sandwiches and burgers which come with a side. But, its not uncommon for folks to want them without a side. Going into the "Discounts" menu to fix this isn't great, since (a) staff forget to do so, and (b) you can't easily do this for multiple items since you can't add multiples of a discount.

So we've resorted to lowering the base price for sandwiches and then adding a value to the side-modifier. For instance, the menu price for a sandwich might be $15, but in Square we  have to price it at $12 and a modifier for $3, so that if they customer doesn't want a side they are only paying $12. But to a customer looking at the bill it can look like the side isn't included and they are paying extra:

"We thought the specials which include a side include that side in the prices, but we were billed separately for each dinner and each side that came with it."

We replied to the customer's feedback, explaining whey we have to price it like this -  hopefully they see it.

A simple "No side: -$3.00"  modifier option would solve this issue.
