Label Printing: Scan and Print Barcode Labels

We are a retailer that has over 6,000 SKUs. We have asked for some time if there is an option that can be incorporated into the POS that would allow for us to "Scan and Print". With tons of new items coming in every week, we would love a better option to print out shelf labels, with the easiest option being to scan the new item and print immediately.

THANKS!

Re: Can Square generate SKU numbers?

Hello @GlacierLandings, welcome to the Seller Community!

This is a great question I'm sure other businesses have. While Square doesn't have a way to auto generate SKU's Shopventory does! Once your products are entered into Shopventory you can run a task where the software will generate a SKU for any item without an assigned SKU.

I hope this helps!

@Enchanted - LynnKChip recommended using Excel or Word. LocavoreStore recommended a piece of software called Barcode Producer. brju2013 pointed out that the Dymo LabelWriter comes with its own software for creating barcodes. Here is a link to the printer they suggested: http://www.staples.com/DYMO-LabelWriter-450-Label-Printer/product_797806. Hope this helps!

Is this feature available now with the new square for retail? I am looking for this feature for my wifes store. She would like to create/print and scan the bar codes within the square app and not have to use 3rd part software etc.

We are also looking for the same thing.  We need a way to print labels easy showing price and a barcode. We only want to put in the data once not twice. I see people talking about the dymo label printer but you have to mess around with that filling out price and product information and then go to square inputing in the data a second time.  We need an easy soluiton for this from what I can tell clover allows an easy way to print barcodes direct from the user interface why does square not have this option for us?  Can any of the 3rd party inventory apps print barcode labels for us and import the data to square?

@setty7 @mlstores - This isn't currently a feature of Square Retail, but it's definitely a popular feature request and something our team is looking into. Having said that, our integration with Vend does offer label support. You should check it out.

Does anyone know if this barcode printer  http://www.staples.com/DYMO-LabelWriter-450-Label-Printer/product_797806  works seamlessly with MAC OS X?  It says the software is compatible but I know that's not always correct.  Have a scanner just need the software and printer to print the correct barcodes.  Thanks!

Good question, @Stitched. I haven't tried out the software myself but for what it's worth, I've never heard any complaints about using it on MAC OS, and it's been our go-to recommendation for some time!

Hope to hear from others on this, but if you try it out let us know how it goes.

This would make all the difference for me - purchasing/using square for retail.

Hi @BluePelicanOBX! This is definitely feedback that our Retail POS team has heard. We'll be sure to share more details in the future if this is a feature we offer in-house. 👍

@Spenser @BluePelicanOBX  Sorry for the delay!  I have been busy using my Dymo and barcode scanner prepping merchandise for upcoming shows.  I am VERY pleased.  Thus far it has been a seamless process for me.  I purchased the Symbol LS2208 barcode scanner with USB.  (I am using and Ipad air with the scanner and a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.10.3 with the DYMO 450.  The Dymo comes with a CD which is of no value since the Mac has no slot for CD/DVD so downloading the software was the only option.  It was a breeze to download and install and I had printed my first label within minutes of plugging it in.  Thus far I am manually entering the information on the barcode, and scanning to enter into square POS.  I'm in a super big hurry with 3 back to back shows coming up.  Being able to scan merchandise quickly at checkout is more important at the moment.  I am very well satisfied and much more pleased than I anticipated I would be.

Hi, can you tell me what you mean by "repair" in your post? I'm thinking of buying the Socket Mobile 7Ci CX2870-1409 Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) and Dymo 450Turbo printer for our Square set up at a small non-profit museum gift shop and need to know how reliable hardware is and how easy it is to use. We have a pool of volunteer docents, not all tech saavy, who work the gift shop for us.  Thanks!
