Has there been an update to the Square retail app or gonna be in the future to add a store credit to a customers profile on it? It would so be helpful.
Trying to give a customer a complementary $25 for hardships. I have the Advanced Accounting so I can use gift cards. I would like to use a 100% discount promo code to pay for this gift card but the only option is Paypal or Stripe. How can I give a customer store credit??
A Store Credit feature is 100% necessary and this needs to be an option ASAP. Obviously there are workarounds like issuing gift cards but it's just a poor excuse. The most difficult part is not the workaround but having to tell customers that 'we don't have the ability' to add credit to their account.
There are so many cases were this would be useful. For example, staff credit, tracking trades with other suppliers, paying forward from friend to friend, donating to charitable accounts, deposit refunds, etc. There's an endless need for this and hopefully Square can stop playing pretend. We are professionals and we need to be able to act professionally.
At the very least, open up to a plugins library like Shopify does.

For now, giving your customers a gift card would be the best option for these scenarios.
I agree with you @DenisLeblanc; I can think of multiple scenarios in which adding credit would make sense. Hopefully this is something that we can add so you can offer customers credit as opposed to gift cards or other workarounds.
I can't believe square does not offer an option to apply credit on a customer account! I own a acupuncture clinic and many patients like to pay ahead. Please tell me there is a solution besides administering gift cards. Users of square seem to have been complaining about this since 2017! I just started to use square and i love every thing about it but this. I'm thinking of using another system.
