Square for Retail: Adding a store credit to a customer

Has there been an update to the Square retail app or gonna be in the future to add a store credit to a customers profile on it? It would so be helpful.

Re: How to give customer store credit/voucher

Trying to give a customer a complementary $25 for hardships.  I have the Advanced Accounting so I can use gift cards.  I would like to use a 100% discount promo code to pay for this gift card but the only option is Paypal or Stripe.  How can I give a customer store credit??

I can't be the only store that only gives Store Credit on returns?  No where in Square can I make that happen.  I don't understand why this is not part of the refund options?

How do I do a store credit??

Thanks

So this message was dated 2017 - we are now in 2021 and still not able to do a store credit properly that would put the inventory back into the system and put a store credit on that persons file.  I dont understand???

Can you please put this in front of them again...

Having to buy plastic gift cards is yet another expense this small business owner can't afford.

Still waiting on a Store Credit feature.  How is this still not a thing?

I need this feature as well. We are about to launch a store and have your system. But I'm looking at other options.

I'm also inquiring about assigning a credit to a customer profile! It's 2021 and this thread started in 2017?! How do you advise we do this without having to give them a gift card? I'm just starting out!

I don't think square plans on doing anything for us that they can't make any money on. Kind of crappy if you ask me. Makes me think about ditching this whole system and going with an entirely different one that's more friendly to small businesses like ours. For my business I've had to use a pad that I kept track of store credit on and issue them a paper copy of the same store credit. And then in my register under discounts I made one that just said store credit that I can add a custom amount to at the point of sale when they bring the credit slip back. I am deeply disappointed by the way squares not handling this.

I just put their store credit on a gift card. That simple.

That's cool if you want to pay for gift cards, but I'm not paying for gift cards when it should be a feature available in the register. Square makes an awful lot of money off small businesses, they could give us this feature. it wouldn't cut into their profit because a lot of us are already using alternative methods for giving/collecting store credit. I shouldn't have to boost my prices or pay somebody less in store credit than I normally would so square can get their cut.

Did anyone ever figure out a good workaround? This 100% discount option is garbage. Also, apparently if someone's original transaction was split-tender, it won't even allow you to put it on a gift card at all (for store credit). The only option it allows is to refund back on to the original cards used. I don't know anyone that would hang on to a gift card once the balance is gone, but if they come back to return something, Square only allows the balance to go onto that gift card that's out in the trash somewhere. They're a disaster.

Some of my customers would like to prepay their monthly recurring bills because they go on vacation for the summers.  It would be nice to have them "over"pay on one month and then have a credit in the system that gets applied when the next monthly bill is created.
