Feature Request: Add Modifiers or Options to Services

PLEASE give the ability to add modifiers to services. This one omission is what keeps Square Appointments from being the perfect tool for my business.

 

Creating a separate service for each wanted modifier does not work, because just like items, certain modifiers only apply to certain services.

 

Being able to create modifiers for services, and possibly a time duration to each modifier to be added to the service time would be perfect. For example, as a vehicle detailing business:

 

SERVICE: Premium Detail (2 hrs)

 

Modifiers:

  • Hand wax +$10 (+20min)
  • Sealant +$20 (+20min)
  • Fabric Guard +$20/+$30/+$40 (+20min)
  • etc.

As you can see, having a $20 fabric guard as a standalone service does not make sense, as it can not be booked as a standalone service. It's an add-on modifier to the Premium Detail. And perhaps I have another detail package that includes the fabric guard in the price, so that modifier doesn't necessarily apply to every service.

 

I can see this same concept working flawlessly with many other industries as well, such as a hair salon. The service could be a haircut, and an addon modifier could be "shampoo & blow dry". But a shampoo & blow dry is not a standalone service- it only works as a modifier to a haircut service.

 

Not only would this functionality tie in perfectly with the way items are already setup within Square, but it allows us to remember all the upsale and crossale options for our services, thereby increasing revenue for both the merchant as well as Square.

@Archilaveronica You can add variations to a Service, but there isn't a way to set up Add-Ons I'm afraid. It's a feature request we're tracking in this post.

 

In the meantime, I hope you can use variations to create different combinations of your services!

@AROBINSON we're with you, modifiers for services would be fantastic!

 

However, until this featuere comes around we've figured out a workaround.

 

Here's how it would look for you:

• Create your main services: "Premium Detail", "Standard Detail", etc.

• Then create more services: "+Hand Wax", "+Sealant", "+Fabric Guard 1", "+Fabric Guard 2", "+Fabric Guard 3", etc

 

When booking an appointment, it would look like this:

Mr. Joe Black

Thursday, Feb 7, 2019

9:00 AM-11:40 AM (2 hr, 40 mins)

Booked by You on 2/6/2019

SERVICES & ITEMS

Premium Detail (2 hours) $100.00

+Hand Wax (20 minutes) $20.00

+Sealant (20 minutes) $20.00

Total $140.00

No update right now, @styliststef. But I've merged this thread and the others you commented into with the main thread where other sellers are asking about the same feature. It looks like @BradSC provided a workaround - would this help in the meantime?

I don't know if you have figured out a work-around. However, my solution for this problem is... As I am a photographer, I have various photography services that has add-on's. I figured out by filling out an invoice, I can make some add-on's items and some modifiers for example: 

 

Corporate Headshots

1-hour session | Online gallery | web release

 

Service Price: $275 for first person - On Location (Service)

Additional Personnel: $75/person - On Location (Item)

Executive Desk Shot: $150 - On Location (Modifier)

When will you add modifiers to square appointments? This is such a deal breaker for beauty industry. I'm loosing a lot of money and so is Square because of this simple feature. I'd like for my clients to be prompted to choose an add on after selecting the service. You have it in the checkout section why not just make it available in square appointments?!

This is a critical feature for many types of businesses! Add-on’s are a large portion of profit and increase the businesses total revenues. Many businesses need variations of a main service in addition to the modifiers which can only be offered in addition to a the selection of a main service and not standalone. 

Let’s get this bumped up the development que… feature would bring square higher processing charges and more profit for business owners. It’s a win - win. 

Can not believe this does not work on services. such a deal-breaker for me, not even gonna consider keeping my square account because of this. Variants just don't do the trick, what a shame, and I was so excited when I learned about all other awesome features. Very disappoining.

It would be helpful to assign an additional service time to modifiers so service times can be extended to allow for add on items booked by the client. For example if a customer books a manicure and wants to add nail art for an up charge during their booking, this adds 10 minutes to a service time but square still only requires the original time set for the appointment. A current work around is to add additional buffer time to services, but this results in lost revenue if you lose 10 extra minutes after each service. 

I like how this has been requested for years now and they just keep "merging it with another thread". I also like how the option is there to attach addons to services but and it pretends to do it, but when you go book....nothing.  Not sure how this is not a priority to them considering the number of comments and the number of threads related to this request not to mention the simple logic of needing something like this for a service business.

It's disappointing that Square doesn't support such an essential feature for any service industry even this was requested for years. Considering ditching Square because of this
