Option to create separate item modifiers in POS vs Online Store

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Need different Item modifiers for Online Store

I use some special sets of modifiers for my items to print out various information to our employees to fulfill an order. These same modifiers are not wanted for the customer to see in our Online Store. It seems that if I remove the modifier set on the Online Store it syncs back to Square and also removes that modifier on my original item. Is there any way to assign different modifier sets (or remove modifier sets) between the Online Store and the Square Register? It does appear I can hide specific items withing the modifier set and that does not affect my original item.

@lovemychaos , you online store looks great. We have also been pleased with being able to make some minor tweaks to our items to serve both our baristas and online ordering. I was curious if you have looked at the new ability to add options. I was not sure it would make much of a difference for our items but I have found it greatly enhances some of our online listings. Looking at your menu just briefly I could see it helping with some of your items like the "Monday Tacos". You have the options listed in the description and then you need to use the drop down to select one. If you turn the variations into options it doesn't change the display for your employees on the POS side but it turns the drop down into radio buttons which would work well with the "Monday Tacos", in my opinion 😉

I was afraid the options would increase the number of items but if you have a single option on an item it seems to be the same as having variations. It is also easy to change variations into options if you export/import your items to change them.

Best of luck to you and your business.

How can I have different modifiers online and in store since everything syncs? We have a lot of short cuts on the register side where as online they need to be broken down more, but I don’t want all of them on the POS side.

Thank you!

Thank you for your post, @TFBO, and welcome to Seller Community!

There isn't a way right not to stop modifiers from the online store from syncing to your Square account. I'm merging your post into a different thread which has a workaround, though.

Hey @vhovar

I think I like what you're describing! Can you share a link to your online ordering so we can see what the 'options' look like? Thank you so much!!

@TFBO, take a look at fusionbrew@square.site & look at the drink sizes for the Espresso/coffee drinks vs the Bubble Tea drinks. I'm still using variations for the Espresso drinks but switched to Options for the Bubble Tea drinks. I really like the way the Options provide button selectors rather than the drop down. On the POS side we don't see a difference so nothing changes for our staff.

I should also mention that this is using a single Option. If you take a look at our Merchandise from the "toaster" drop down on the top left of the screen you will see examples of a 2 dimension Option, size & color of shirts & cups.

The effort needed on our end to duplicate items and create new modifiers is a lot more than the effort needed on your end to allow us to simply hide a modifier from the online store.

1. Allow for us to hide modifiers, or allow us to create a new set for items that are in our online menu.

2.  Allow us to change the name of the item in the online store.  I just want things to be easier for the staff but I don't expect customers to know what our abbreviations are.

Such a simple fix yet again being ignored by Square for no logical reason.  These fixes can be done in half an hour by any decent developer.

Hello again,

I'm not sure you guys understand how simple what I'm asking for is.  I just want to be able to hide a modifier from the online store.  So I'm not even asking for it not to sync, but just to not be visible. It should be as easy as a checkbox to hide.

officially these ideas are against sop. so you cannot do it. Thanks!
