Good question, here. This is the first time I've seen this kind of request for sales by weight within the Square for Restaurants ecosystem. I can however confirm that this would currently be a Feature Request.
As of now, the best workaround would be to sell whichever food items you'd like in bulk quantities that are already weighed (1lb, 5lb, etc.) and set them up as individual items with your Square for RST settings. I can, however, pass along any feedback to our Product Teams that could potentially be helpful in pushing this request along.
What specific items are you selling at your restaurant that you'd like to weigh? Any other context would be great!
Thanks for your response. I've already been using the work around you suggested, but I don't pre-weigh. I weigh to order and this is a bit problematic from an efficiency stand point. I'm selling barbecue (brisket) and I can't pre slice because it needs to be fresh. So what ends up happening is that I have to get my weight EXACT for the pricing to line up.
It seems odd to me that selling items by weight is available in other Square apps, but not restaurants. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that decimals are not allowed in restaurants, which is also odd. Ideally, I'd like to have a scale that connects to my stand (again, available for other apps, but not restaurants) and I could weigh and price that way.

Yes! I have been waiting for scales, they finally got here, finally had the ones that I already had and now I still cannot use on square for restaurant. It get's sooo close....then just not close enough...it's really cumbersome to run a restaurant on just the standard POS app. Doable, but not nice.
It is extremely frustrating to see the new restaurant version not support weights and measures for its pos. We would have upgraded but had to stay with the older version because it does support that whereas the new restaurant one does not.
