What is a small business grant?

A small business grant is typically a lump sum amount that is given (or granted) by a local, state, or federal agency, a nonprofit organization, or a private company to a business that does not have to be paid back.

Our grant list

This is a list of just some of the grants that are currently available for businesses in the U.S., listed alphabetically. This list excludes other sources of funding, including business loans, angel investors, lines of credit, or accelerator programs or scholarships — all of which are other avenues to explore if you are looking for additional funds for your business.

In this list, we have included the name of the grant and the website, who provides the grant, what kind of business the grant is for, the amount of the grant provided, the deadline to apply (if applications are open year-round, once a year, or more often, and always check the website for specific deadline dates), and additional information that we consider important to note.

All content is accurate at the time of writing, and you should always verify the details of any grant, including the amount required to apply and additional information, with the grant provider directly before proceeding with your application.

Typically, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for a grant once a year, though some accept applications year-round. If the deadline has passed, check out the application process so you have plenty of time to prepare for when applications open again. It’s a good idea to conduct your research in advance, as you may need to provide paperwork such as your business plan, bank statements, lease agreements, or tax returns.
