Customer address not added from Mobile address book

Customer address not added from Mobile address book

Im a contractor that needs a clients address on all invoices and estimates. Square gives me the option to add a customer using my mobile phones address book which is really great and convenient. The problem is that Square does not pull the actual customers address from my mobile phone address book, it only pulls their name, phone number and email when adding a customer.

To be clear, I'm not talking about my Square app clients list, I'm referring to my cell phone address book.

I run a service business so address is important for invoicing. We have to manually enter the clients address over and over when building our estimates and invoices. Apps like Joist, Invoice2Go and others add the address just fine so it would be nice to see Square also be able to do this as it would really speed up invoice and estimate creation.

Hey there, @DC88

Thank you for reaching out about this.

I want to get some more information in regards to the issue you're seeing with Customers and Invoices. Are you using the Point of Sale app or the Invoices app?

Also, have you updated your either of these apps recently.

I will keep an eye out for your reply👀

Hi @Kassi_thanks for the reply.

This is an issue is with both POS and Invoices app, and I do use both of them for different transactions.
Both the POS and Invoices app are up to date.

If you would like to recreate the issue I'm having:

1. Open Square Invoices app on mobile

2. Tap the plus sign and select Estimate

3. Select "Add customer"

4. Select "Create New Customer"

5. Select "Add from Address Book"

6. Choose someone from your mobile address book that has an address attached to their contact info

7. Scroll down to Address and you will see that the saved address does not populate into the address field

So the only way around this is to go into my mobile address book and copy/ paste the address into the client creating screen and it's quite tedious when we're adding 5-10 customers per day.

Thank you @DC88

This has to do with the permissions for the app.

The software in your phone allows us to pull some information from your contacts, but not the address. This can't be changed, unfortunately.

I will pass on your feedback to our team so we can look into adding this feature, but for privacy protection, this might not be possible.

Let us know if you have any questions!

@frances_aStrangely enough apps like Joist, Invoice2Go and many, if not most other invoicing apps, add the address just fine with all of the same permissions turned on. My square apps have all permissions turned on.

@DC88

Yes, even when the permission for contacts is turned on, Square can "pull" some of the contact information, while some portions of the info are "read-only", this is the part that can't be changed by the user.

You can read more about the permissions we require here.

Your feedback will be routed to the appropriate team, however, at the moment, this isn't a feature we offer.

Thank you!

@frances_a

I didn't realize that is was such a complex thing to implement given that most other invoicing apps pull the address just fine. I figured it was just left out when the software was built.

Maybe a future update will address the issue, thanks for your input.

It's definitely doable... From what I gathered from my team, it's possible we intentionally left the address as "read-only" for privacy reasons. But your feedback is now in the right hands either way.

We will update this thread if we add that feature.

Thank you!

@frances_a

Perfect! Thank you for the update!
