Offline Mode is Now Available on Square Register

Hi Sellers! 👋

We never want you to miss a sale, even if your internet connection is unavailable. Now, you can opt-in to accept chip and PIN payments, Apple Pay, and Google Pay in Offline Mode for when you do not have internet connectivity!

In Offline Mode, Square Register captures card information while connectivity is interrupted, and approves payments without any verification. Once connectivity is restored, the transaction is sent to the issuer for an online authorisation.

To enable Offline Mode:

  1. From the navigation bar at the bottom of your Square Register screen, tap More.
  2. Tap Settings > Checkout > Offline Mode.
  3. Toggle Allow Offline Mode to on.
  4. Review the information and then tap Allow Offline Mode.

Please Note!

  • By enabling Offline Mode, you (the seller) are responsible for any expired, declined, or disputed payments accepted while offline. Square is unable to provide customer contact information for payments declined while offline.
  • Offline mode will only be active when the device is disconnected from internet networks. There will be an orange bar at the top of the screen to notify you that the device is currently offline and is in offline mode.
  • You must reconnect to the internet within 24 hours after taking an offline payment to upload any offline transactions. Offline payments are processed automatically when your device regains connectivity, and will expire if not processed within 24 hours.
