Square Online Checkout product update - August 2021
Square Online Checkout product update - August 2021

Hey everyone! We’ve got some exciting new Square Online Checkout features to share with you! Check ‘em out below.

Custom form fields

Collect information or special instructions from your customers. Add up to 2 custom-labeled fillable fields to your checkout link.

To get started, create a new link and choose either Collect a payment or Accept a donation as your link type. In the link creation setup window, expand the Advanced settings section and click the + next to Custom Fields, and give your new field a title.

Although you can’t add custom form fields to a Sell an item link, you can apply text form fields as modifiers to items you create using Square Online. Head to Items > Site Items in your Online Dashboard and create a new or select an existing item. To add a text field, assign a Modifier to the item in the Edit Item window. You’ll see an option to add a textbox.

NOTE: Although it’s possible to create and assign Modifiers from the Items section of the Square Dashboard, there’s not yet a way to create custom text fields. Currently they can only be created by editing items in the Site Items section on the Online Dashboard. If you’re not enrolled in Square Online, get started here for free.

Classes and Events

Sell classes or tickets for online or in-person events. Set a capacity limit for your event or leave it unlimited. Attendees will be provided your event details in their order confirmation and email receipt. Event dates and times, location, and online meeting links (if applicable) are shared along with options to save the event to their Google or Outlook calendar.

Head on over to Online Checkout in your Square Dashboard to create a class or event.

Enhancements to embeddable buttons

Get more layout and formatting options to match your brand style and colours. Change the colour, shape, and font of your buttons to help them stand out. Set your button style in the Branding section of your Online Checkout settings.

When you customize the styling of a button within the settings of an individual checkout link you've created, your global button style settings under Branding will update as well, keeping all of your buttons consistent.
