API not breaking out tax

It has come to my attention doing the year-end for my company that the Square API is not reporting sales tax when sales are made through my website.  The Square API just records each sale as a lump sum with no description or breakdown, and my developer says the connection to Square doesn’t support that option.

Is this accurate?!?  There’s a lot of upcoming manual work for us it appears to sort out our corporate year-end.

Of course! There is an option for a break down for all itemization including taxes. You will want to use the Orders API - https://developer.squareup.com/docs/orders-api/what-it-does

The unfortunate thing is that Stylist isn't a supported partner, so we don't have a point of contact for them. Since that is the case, this would be something your developer to add or make changes on your side.

Hey there, @Michael_L

I wanted to get some more information on your question, so I can provide the best direction.

Which API are you using with Square to process your payments? It would depend on how the other provider captures payments. Most APIs would use Square just as a payment plug-in, so it wouldn't separate the taxes.

I will keep an eye out for your reply👀

Thanks @Kassi_ I hope you can help!

The sad part is that I'm not the expert; I just followed the instructions.  Here's what I had to do; does any of this give you some clues?

https://www.picturespro.com/sytist-manual/articles/square-getting-credentials/

I have a 'Sytist Application' set up in the Square Developr Portal, but how that works is a little beyond my pay grade I'm afraid. Although I just had a big "HMMM" in that the application seems to be 23 versions behind.  I see the warning that upgrading might break something so I am going to follow up with the Sytist developer and see if he has any concerns.

If you have any tips / thoughts / leads here that would also be very much appreciated.

Thanks again @Kassi_ I will pass this on to the developer at Sytist.  Perhaps he will be in touch to get further details.

As usual

In my own case I’ll proudly keep trying until I'm sure.
