Holding or Reserving Items when Customers in Checkout Process

Can the feature of temporarily holding or reserving the items that a customer has in their shopping cart be added so that high demand items can be held for a few minutes in their cart while they complete the checkout process? 

This would be similar to what Ticketmaster does with concert tickets where they reserve the seats for a few minutes when you try to buy them on their website.
