How do I enable tax rates for my Square Online Store?

[The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Sales Tax enabled and linked but not charged at checkout. HELP!?]

I have completed every step I think to add sales tax to an item in the Square item library for sale in my online shop.

Set up tax

Linked to location

Add to price of item

Enable button

Added to item

I have included shipping in the item price so shipping option shows STANDARD greyed out.

No tax shows up. I thought it might be due to no shipping selections that would help trigger what taxes apply but I thought we need to charge our own state tax to every product sale now including interstate? My test sale was in state anyway.

Hey @storybook!

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community, and sorry about that.

It sounds like you've successfully created the taxes for your Square POS store (in person transactions). To set up taxes for your Square Online Store, you'll have to do so by going to the Square Dashboard > Settings > Taxes. Apologies if that was unclear.

Here is a Support article with a bit more information about tax rates and Square Online Store. Please let me know if you have any questions about this by replying back to me in this thread.

ive done the: items->taxes>enable button->make sure all items are checked->resave->republish....a bunch of times and turned them off and on again a few times.  anybody know the top secret solution to this problem?

Hey @perrystreet.

Hmm. It sounds like you've followed the instructions in this post to set up taxes for your Square Online Store. I am not sure why these wouldn't be working. Are you using Google Chrome to make this adjustment? I wonder if it's browser issues.

If so, would you mind contacting us?

(Editing message, not sure how to delete, but I've somehow got it all to work!) I'm having the same issue. I've followed all steps, watched multiple tutorials. Odd thing is, is when you select in store pickup through the site, it adds tax, but when you choose shipping, it does not add tax. Also, my shipping charges where working fine, and now those as well aren't being calculated online, and everything for that is filled out correctly.

I set up the taxes and shipping rates to my online store, but they're not being applied to the transactions. How can this be fixed?

Hey @TaySum!

Welcome to the Seller Community 🎉

Can you take a look at my best answer in this thread and ensure that you've enabled taxes for the Square Online rather than just the Dashboard?

Let me know! 💡

I just had a look at your thread and the support article you posted. I then double checked and saw that I have everything set up correctly; nothing more I can do. Taxes and shipping fees are still not being added. What can be done to fix this issue?

@Jlavalos I'm really sorry to hear the frustration regarding your sales tax! I tested this out on your site and the sales tax was applied once I entered in an address for shipping or pickup. Make sure you're reaching that step, otherwise the tax won't show since it can vary depending on the customer's location. 🙂

That's interesting, I did all the steps up to putting my credit card in. Hmm maybe I'll just do all the steps and if I end up buying something form my store, no biggy.

I set up a "tax", called it convenience fee, and set percentages.   I then went and and added to items in the library.   I made a sale from the online link to that item and it came up as just the item price.  No "tax" added into the item or at the end.   I tried both those op-tions.    What am I missing?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: how to add sales tax and meals tax to online store items

switching over to online store with weebly and I need two tax rates.  Some items we sell require both sales tax and meals tax - it is item specific.  How do I make this happen in the new online store?

Hey there  @muse.

At this time, there's only one tax that can be added to your orders and it's done automatically. More info on how sales taxes behave in this article.

Hey Justin - this really needs to be addressed for those of using Square POS and Weebly online ordering.  Would I have this issue if I was using Square for Restaurants for online ordering?

Hi there, @muse - thanks for reaching out with a quick reply!

We hear you, we are actively reviewing updates for our Online Store - as soon as we have news to share in regards to edits or changes, we will be sure to update everyone here.

In regards to your question surrounding Restaurants, the same tax settings would apply to your Online Orders even if synced with Square for Restaurants.

I've always included the tax on everything I sell and then pay Uncle Sam his due. My question is this, in setting up my online store, where is the option to "Opt out"? Thanks

Hi @SMcCaffrey! Don't know if I'm following... what exactly do you want to opt out of on your Online Store?
