Sometimes I take orders on my products in store that are out of stock. The customer would like to leave a deposit and pay the balance when the product comes into stock.
I have tried creating an item and calling it deposit, then I can enter the custom amount of deposit, but then I would need to deduct it from the product to balance. I can't enter a negative amount.
I have tried entering an invoice at my POS terminal, but then their is no way to just simple print them a receipt. I would need to email or text to them.
Is their anyway to do what I am asking?

Hello!
As you mention, the best way to take a deposit is using Invoices, you can learn more here. But there is no option to print a receipt from your Terminal, unfortunately.
As for the situation you describe, maybe it would be best to do an exchange of items.
In this case, exchanging the item "deposit" for the actual item, and charging only the difference.
You can learn more about exchanges here, keep in mind this option is available when using Square for Retail.
Let me know if the Square for Retail option would work for you.
Thanks.
