Question about Customer Names on Order Tickets

Hello, I'm not sure if my question will make sense, but I manage a coffee shop where we use sticky receipt paper to put orders on our cups. We like to have our baristas ask our customers for their name to put on the order to make things more personal, but some of them have found that if the customer is paying with a card, they can just let the register fill in the name for them, taking away that personal touch of connecting with the customer.

I could have sworn I had seen an option to turn this feature off at one point, but I have not been able to find it again. Is anyone able to help me?

Hello @CrossingCoffee !

 

I don't believe there's a way to disable the auto capture of the customer name from the card unfortunately. I'm assuming that you have the checkout flow set up to ask for the name before reaching the point where a card is inserted?

More -> Settings -> Checkout -> Order Tickets -> Enter custom number or name

 

This will bring up a screen before the payment type screen asking for a name on the ticket. Yes, if you're on this screen when a card is inserted it will populate the name field, but if your baristas are already entering something here Square won't delete it. After that, it's mostly on training the team to ask for a name each and every time. (and if you figure out how to do that, please let me know.......)
