Removing items from stock with a record

We sell wholesale products in our shop, but we also sell local artisan's handmade goods on consignment. We would like to know the best way to remove items from stock that a local vendor takes for rework, or because they needed that item to sell to their own customer, without running through sales, which artificially boosts our sales numbers. We also need a record of that removal. We are currently posting as a sale, then comping it at zero dollars with an added note that it's an inventory refresh, but when an artisan leaves the shop with some or all of their products, we are doing that for hundreds or thousands of dollars in goods. We can't just "recount" inventory as there is no field to explain. Anyone have a good solution to this? Square is our only "inventory management" tool, we don't run any third party integrations-perhaps we should?

Hi @dogeatdog. Thanks for reaching out. You may want to take a look at our Square for Retail subscription which will provide an inventory history report you can reference to see stock actions. You can also adjust these historical stock actions if a mistake is made, but I think that this will allow you to have more control over what happens with your inventory.

You can check out their main product page here and a more detailed description of the report described above here.
