My chip reader says that it already has a card in it, but it doesn't.

All of a sudden my chip reader is saying that it already has a card it in and to remove the card. There's no card though, so it won't take a new card for a transaction. How can I fix this?

Sorry to hear about the trouble. This issue sounds strange, as I haven't come across anything like this with another seller. 

 

Have you tried any troubleshooting? Force quitting the app and hard resetting the reader might help. 

 

Also, make sure that your app is updated to the latest version. Let me know if this helps, if not I can investigate a bit further with you.

Thanks for your response! The app is updated and I have tried troubleshooting. I emailed Square Support and they don't have any idea what's going on, so I'm sending it in for a replacement under warranty.
