The ap on my iphone 4 is still loading after 30 minutes. Is this standard?

Do you mean downloading or opening?  The time it takes to download will depend on your internet connection, though it's not an overly large file and shouldn't take too long.  It should only take a few seconds to launch the app.  You might need to close it and try again, turn your phone off and on again, or re-download the app.

@johnreedesign - If you have an iPhone 4, unfortunately it wouldn't be compatible with Square. The oldest iPhone that works with Square is the 4S. Here is an article that lays out the compatible devices.
