What hardware do we actually need to use the Appointments app?

For the past few years, we have used an iPad3 with a Gen 1 Square Stand connected to an AGP cash drawer and a thermal printer to handle our retail POS business. We bought these when the first Square Stands were released.

 

We recently added the Appointments app to our roster of tools, but we seem to have a connectivity problem with our stand now. It charges the iPad but we have no devices connected that previously (printer, drawer, etc.)

 

What would need to get a printer/drawer that works with the Appointments app and can provide the receipt printing and cash management we need? Does the Star mPop unit work for this? Do we need a newer iPad? Or is our hardware just too out of date for this?

Sorry to hear about these difficulties. iPad3 and the original Square Stand are the root of your issue here.

 

All your peripheral products like the printer/drawer is totally fine to use with a new iPad and Stand, but the issue comes when Apple stop supporting the iPad and cannot send updates to the device anymore.  

 

A newer iPad/Stand will allow you to install and run iOS 12.0 (currently at 12.4, which should be your iOS), and run the most recent version of the App.

 

When you upgrade you should have a seamless expereince with the Appointments App and your printer/drawer.
