How do I subtract a deposit i received from my total before the tax is calculated

OKay i hope i explain this right, I am a tattoo artist and i accept deposit for future apts threw EMT, no tax is on this deposit.. So now when my client comes for the tattoo I charge them for the hours and then would like to minus the deposit amount from the total and then tax. Example.  I receive $50 for a deposit, then the client gets 200 charge on the date of the apt. So $200 - $50 = $150 Plus Gst.. Simple enough but how do I do this on the square, i'm not sure how to put the in the deposit amount..

Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

Was tax included on the initial $50 deposit?  Because, if not, tax should be applied to the entire $200.

If tax was included on the initial $50, you could set up 2 different items in your catalogue - one with tax (for the $150 amount), and one without tax (for the $50 amount).  Then on checkout split the amount and use "Other Gift Card or Certificate" or "Other Payment Type" for the deposit paid.
