Tips

I am wondering why there is a limit on tips when creating invoices.

We initially sent an invoice without tip option and the customer paid.  Then we sent another invoice for $1 so they could tip, but ran into the max limit of $200.  Now our original invoice was for over $8K, so a $200 tip is not sufficient.  I also noticed that there seems to be a limit of $1000 tip on a large amount of $9K.  Again, we would expect to get at least 15% to 20% tip on this, so the limit of 1K is also insufficient.  We cater large food orders.

Hi @HospitalityKSR,

Thanks for writing in to our Seller Community with this question 🙂

There are currently a few limitations built into our tipping settings. If a transaction is below $3, then the maximum custom tip amount is $3.

If a transaction is over $3, then the maximum custom tip amount can be up to 100% of the transaction, and if a transaction is over $200, then the maximum custom tip amount can be up to 50% of the transaction, up to $1,000.

However, it sounds like you're finding that you need to go above this limit, which is something out Phone Support Team can help with. Reach out to let us know that you would like to be considered for Higher Tip Limits by logging into your Square account and heading here.
